The 18th of November marked a huge step in Pavegen’s development. We have our first large scale outdoor installation in the heart of one of the US’s busiest cities, Washington D.C. Pavegen has provided a seamless way for pedestrians to contribute renewable power to the local grid, by simply walking down the road. Every day 10,000 people will be passing over 240 sq feet of Pavegen tiles on Connecticut Avenue, metres away from the White House.

The Pavegen team worked in conjunction with the The District Department of Transportation, ZGF and Golden Triangle BID to deliver the installation. This project has initiated Pavegen’s further expansion into the US market, and has received tremendous press and support from both US and UK governments. Deputy Ambassador, Patrick Davies attended and he said:

"Pavegen is an example of British engineering at it's best - elegant, simple and has the potential to impact cities across the USA"

Since the launch, Pavegen has been praised in US media with exclusive pieces in Forbes, The Washington Post, NBC4 Washington & Fox5 DC News.

We have developed a sophisticated charging infrastructure, and a data uplink, that allows for the remote real time monitoring of the system and the data produced using the smart controller.  The 240 sq foot of V3 is installed permanently and will soon be facing the D.C. winter. We are excited to show the world how well it stands up to these harsh conditions.

Discussions are underway with other municipalities about producing similar installations across the US, taking us one step closer to making our technology more economical and viable to roll out on a much greater scale. This project represents a unique collaboration between public and private entities - from one of the biggest government groups in the world, to a high-tech company headquartered in London. This shows it is possible to overcome the hurdles in the innovation of our future smart cities.

We are always excited to explore new opportunities, if you would like to know more about how Pavegen could work for you, please send a project enquiry to our team.
