To mark Pavegen’s first installation in the Asia Pacific Region and provide a clean-technology, low-carbon solution within the public space in Federation Square in Melbourne, an iconic city that is fast becoming one of the most sustainable in Australia. 

Solution In partnership with Siemens, Pavegen installed 5 tiles that power LED lighting situated around the square, using high footfall to provide light during the night. The installation adds to Siemens’ extensive Environmental Portfolio and fulfils their goal of discovering innovative energy solutions to reduce their carbon footprint.

Impact Since opening in 2002, the square has seen over 100 million visits and aims to be carbon neutral by 2014; figures that in the future, could establish Melbourne’s vision of becoming a sustainable smart city.
