A Call for Decarbonisation and Innovation

🌍A Call for Decarbonisation and Innovation🌍

A personal message from laurence kemball-cook, ceo

26th June 2024

As London Climate Action Week 2024 unfolds, I find myself reflecting on the future we are shaping for the next generation. Recently, my partner and I welcomed our beautiful daughter into the world here in London. Her arrival has strengthened my resolve to ensure that we leave behind a planet that is safe, sustainable, and full of opportunities.

With the UK general election approaching on July 4th, I’ve joined forces with other technology leaders to urge all political parties to accelerate decarbonisation efforts. This is not just a professional obligation; it's a deeply personal mission. I want my daughter to grow up in a world where innovative climate solutions are the norm, not the exception.

The Power of ClimateTech

Supporting ClimateTech firms like Pavegen is crucial. Our technology, which converts footsteps into energy, is just one example of how innovation can drive sustainability. By helping to power low-energy applications, Pavegen engages communities, raises awareness, and educates the public on the importance of sustainable practices. It's about making every step count.

A comprehensive and joined-up policy agenda is essential. We need the UK to be the best place in the world to found and grow a ClimateTech business. This will enable companies to scale, commercialise, and export their innovations globally. Such an approach will not only help us meet our net zero goals but also ensure that the UK leads the charge in creating jobs and driving economic growth in the low-carbon future.

A Call to Political Leaders Ahead of the General Election

I have seen firsthand the impact that strong government support can have on driving innovation and sustainability; over the years, I have had the privilege of working closely with government bodies, traveling globally with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) to promote and export UK climate technology.

My personal plea to all political leaders:

"The time to act is now. Whoever wins the election must prioritise ClimateTech innovation. This is both an environmental and economic imperative. We need bold policies that support decarbonisation and foster the growth of sustainable industries."

A Future Worth Fighting For

As we navigate the challenges and opportunities of London Climate Action Week, let’s commit to making a real difference. For the sake of our children and future generations, we must ensure that every step we take leads us closer to a sustainable and prosperous world.

Join me in this mission. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter, greener future

Laurence
