Driving Towards Sustainability: Kia's Innovative Green Revolution

Pavegen is a global leader in energy harvesting technology, empowering people to create renewable energy through their footsteps. Our kinetic flooring technology has been used in various projects worldwide, from public spaces to sporting events, concerts, and exhibitions.

#MakeYourMove

Kia approached us to help create an innovative and interactive experience that would engage tennis fans and showcase their commitment to sustainability during the course of a two week tennis grand slam event in Melbourne, Australia. They wanted to raise awareness of their electrified range of cars and connect with their audience in a fun and meaningful way, while also demonstrating their dedication to a cleaner and greener future.

THE SOLUTION

Pavegen designed and built an eye-catching and stylish installation using strobe lights and gamification with the ‘ElectroShuffle’. The ElectroShuffle challenged visitors to use their best dance moves to generate the most real-time energy in competition with each other. Two Pavegen platforms allowed players to battle for the top spot on the leaderboard and compete for the chance to win tickets to next year’s festival.

Revolutionising Mobility with Sustainable Solutions

Drawing on our expertise in kinetic energy and interactive installations, we created a world-first kinetic tennis experience that brought Kia’s brand slogan, ‘Movement That Inspires’, to life. #MAKEYOURMOVE, challenged participants to make tennis moves like a tennis hero to generate off-grid electricity and help charge the Kia EV6 as part of the tournament’s official EV fleet.

The gameplay took place at the multi-purpose Kia Arena, an open-air stadium located in Melbourne, Australia, where our interactive booth was installed. Our technology-enabled players to generate electricity by competing against the clock and jumping between five interactive energy floor zones. With every drop shot, forehand, and volley, the footsteps of players generated electricity and stored it in a battery to be used later to help charge the Kia EV6.

To promote a competitive element between friends and family, a leaderboard featured the top ten players who generated the highest amount of electricity during a single gameplay. Prizes consisting of signed merchandise were awarded at random to allow all ages and abilities to take part and have a chance of winning.

KIA Gameplay

Accelerating Positive Change in the Automotive Industry

The kinetic tennis experience was a massive success, with over 7,000 gameplays during the two-week event . It engaged families and tennis fans in a fun and interactive way, demonstrating Kia's commitment to sustainability and their electrified range of cars.

The worlds-first kinetic tennis experience created a powerful connection between Kia and tennis fans, showcasing Kia's innovative approach to mobility and sustainability. The real-time data of the cumulative total electricity generated was displayed on huge totems outside Kia Arena, attracting the attention of the public and raising awareness of the importance of making a positive impact on the environment.

As a result of our collaboration with Kia, we were able to demonstrate the power of our kinetic technology to a global audience, and further cement our position as a leader in energy harvesting technology.
