HEATHROW CREATED AN ENTIRELY NEW PARTICIPATION-LED EXPERIENCE INITIATED BY PASSENGER FOOTFALL

Airports Need Exciting Experiences to Captivate and Engage Passengers

Airports aim to transform the way passengers experience travel, turning what was once a mundane necessity into an exciting adventure. Heathrow, driven by this vision, set out to revolutionise the airport experience, crafting a journey that is not just endured but eagerly anticipated. Their goal? To create an unforgettable, innovative, and exhilarating atmosphere that leaves every visitor with a lasting impression.

HEATHROW CREATED AN ENTIRELY NEW PARTICIPATION-LED EXPERIENCE INITIATED BY PASSENGER FOOTFALL

Utilising the high footfall of one of the busiest terminals at Heathrow, Pavegen introduced an innovative solution quite literally beneath passengers' feet. A once ordinary corridor was transformed into an off-grid, energy-generating walkway, where every step powered captivating interactive lighting displays. This unique experience allowed travelers to engage with the airport environment in an entirely new and unexpected way, turning their journey into an interactive adventure powered by their own footsteps.

Revolutionising The Passenger Experience

The Impact: Heathrow's Interactive, Footfall-Powered Journey

Heathrow became a trailblazer as one of the first airports globally to introduce a participation-led experience driven entirely by passenger footfall. Instead of merely passing through a conventional, passive terminal, visitors were immersed in a dynamic environment where interactive infrastructure transformed their journey. This innovative approach not only enhanced engagement but also promoted more sustainable travel experiences, setting a new standard for airport design.

10,000 people per day!

As Pavegen's inaugural airport kinetic walkway, Heathrow not only set the stage for future expansions into transportation hubs worldwide but also showcased the potential of integrating sustainable technology into high-traffic areas. By proving that high-footfall locations are prime for innovation, Heathrow highlighted the immense opportunities for transforming everyday transit spaces into dynamic, energy-generating environments that engage and inspire travelers.

This pioneering project underscored the importance of reimagining how we interact with our surroundings, paving the way for the next generation of sustainable, tech-driven infrastructure in airports and beyond.
