HEATHROW CREATED AN ENTIRELY NEW PARTICIPATION-LED EXPERIENCE INITIATED BY PASSENGER FOOTFALL

THE CHALLENGE

Airports want to create genuinely enjoyable experiences for their passengers. Rather than being something that must be endured, Heathrow wanted to provide their visitors with a memorable, innovative and exciting travelling experience like no other.

THE SOLUTION

Utilising the high footfall of one of the busiest terminals at Heathrow, Pavegen provided a solution that was situated right under passengers’ feet. By transforming a once plain corridor into an engaging, off-grid energy generating walkway, passengers were now able to trigger an array of interactive lighting displays as they travelled to their next destination. Through the power of their very own footsteps, passengers now had the opportunity to interact with airports in a way that they had not ever experienced before.

THE IMPACT

Heathrow was one of the first airports in the world to create an entirely new participation-led experience initiated by passenger footfall. Visitors no longer travelled through a traditionally passive, dull terminal, but instead enjoyed uniquely interactive infrastructure resulting in overall more engaging and sustainable travelling experiences.
